Applications for the Unplug and Play are now open.
Two winners will spend a week or so kayaking and camping along Bendigo Creek, from Bendigo to Gunbower, and win $2500.00 for the privilege.
A film crew will follow their every move as they tackle obstacles and physical challenges.
The film crew will also showcase the ecological values of the region’s waterways, a significant focus of the North Central CMA.
“We’re looking for two people aged 16 to 26 who aren’t necessarily outdoorsy,” North Central CMA project manager Kristie Smith said.
“We want them to unplug from their devices and hectic lives to experience Mother Nature close-up.
“Really close-up.
“We’ve attracted applications from all over the country, but we’d love to see locals from the north-central region put up their hands and have a go.
“All they need to do is put a couple of short videos together and tell us why they want to be involved.
“If you think you’re not the right person for an outdoor adventure like this, you’re probably the perfect candidate.”
Mrs Smith said getting up close and personal with the great outdoors can have many benefits.
“The research shows it can help make you feel better emotionally, help increase self-esteem, and even reduce feelings of isolation,” she said.
“We had one application from someone who admits to clocking up 10,000 hours of gaming.
“He’s realising that life is passing him by and feels he is missing out on what it has to offer.
“This could be an opportunity to change his life and those around him.
“And what better way to overcome any eco-anxiety than by tackling it head-on.”
The two people chosen will win $2500 each for completing the journey and will receive plenty of great content for their social media.
Applications for the Unplug and Play close at midnight on Wednesday, May 1.
To nominate, create a short video showing why you’re perfect for the experience and upload it at http://unplugandplay.au/
