Detective Senior Constable Jason Hare of Campaspe Criminal Investigation Unit said the crime spree started early Sunday where a Landcruiser was stolen from a Lockington business in Dullard Rd and used in two burglaries in Kerang.
Thieves drove the 4WD to a rural supply business in Koondrook Rd, Kerang, and stole a Toyota ute before going to Mawsons at the end of the road where they stole a Holden Rodeo ute, which was loaded up with a large amount of rural supplies.
‘‘Thieves forced their way out by ramming through the fence, damaging it and the car,’’ Det. Snr Constable Hare said.
The Landcruiser was dumped and set alight on the side of the road.
Det. Snr Constable Hare said both utes were then driven through bushland to Cohuna where the Toyota broke down and was pushed into the Murray River.
The Holden Rodeo was found in Echuca’s Dobinson St where two men were also arrested yesterday.
A 33-year-old Echuca man and 20-year-old Cobram man were remanded in custody overnight to appear in Bendigo Magistrates Court today.
The Echuca man has been charged with three counts each of burglary and theft of a motor vehicle and criminal damage, as well as three more counts of burglary and theft relating to two residential and one commercial break-in at Gunbower in March.
The Cobram man is charged with three counts each of burglary and theft of a motor vehicle.
