The ‘Snapshot in Time’ project will focus on women within a 50km radius of Echuca-Moama and the different roles they play within the community.
The idea was originally pitched by Committee for Echuca Moama chair Catherine Lees and will be brought to life with the help of Fairley Leadership Program participants Maree Harris and Izzy Rees.
Ms Rees said the project would act as a representation of Echuca-Moama and the local community at the present time.
“It was Cath’s brainchild that we’ve taken on, and her phrase is ‘the ordinarily extraordinary’,” she said.
“It celebrates the ordinary people who in their own right are extraordinary at what they do... we want the book to represent Echuca-Moama as it is today and the surrounding community that help as part of that.
“It's about seeing all the faces of our community and actually getting to celebrate all that they do because there are so many amazing people who constantly give.”
In the coming weeks, the two women will work with community members, local groups and schools to invite women to take part in the project, however nominations are also welcome.
Women from all demographics and backgrounds are able to take part, from mothers, to club members to professionals.
After the stories have been gathered from participants, the project will take the form of a book.
Ms Harris said being part of the project was a new challenge for her.
“It's a great opportunity to be involved in something community-based,” she said.
“I haven't really done that before, so I'm putting myself out there, especially in project management, I'm challenging myself on that perspective.”
She added that it was also just a chance to celebrate the achievements of women and encapsulate the connections between people.
“It's 2025 and things will be very different in a couple of years,” she said.
“It's really good to see where we are now, what we're accomplishing and celebrating.
“We can become very isolated, especially with the prevalence of social media, and we don't want to forget that connection that we have to people.”
If you know an ordinarily extraordinary woman in your life or community, or would like to be a part of the project yourself, you can complete a nomination.
