The Department of Transport has announced road surfacing closures will take place on Melbourne-bound lanes between Wallan and Kalkallo across two weekends in April and May.
The first closure is scheduled from 9pm on Friday, April 19, until 5am on Monday, April 22.
Another closure will occur from 9pm on Friday, May 3, to 5am on Monday, May 6.
During these periods, the southbound lanes will be closed between Watson St in Wallan and Donnybrook Rd in Kalkallo.
Traffic will be diverted at Watson St, following a detour via Wallan-Whittlesea Rd, Epping-Kilmore Rd, Merriang Rd and Donnybrook Rd to rejoin the freeway.
Drivers are advised to allocate an additional 25 minutes for travel due to the detour, especially during peak times.
The southbound freeway entry ramps from Lithgow St in Beveridge and the Northern Hwy in Wallan will also be closed.
The resurfacing will cover a 2.5-kilometre freeway section from Gunns Gully Rd to Donnybrook Rd.
The schedule is dependent on favourable weather conditions, as dry and mild weather is necessary for the old surface removal and new pavement laying processes.
