In alignment with the trust’s intention to support advancing community based allied health, this donation will assist allied health professionals to provide care in the cancer centre with a team-based approach that will be directly supported by the new infrastructure.
ERH said it was excited to have the multi-disciplinary team working side by side in the new centre rather than spread across the current campus, adding it was a win for patients and the hospital’s team-based approach.
The wellness centre component of the building will be fitted out with furniture and soft furnishings that support a welcoming and calm feel to the centre where people can participate in programs that are focused on promoting wellbeing.
“This donation will directly enable the purchasing of equipment specifically designed for wellbeing programs, such as cancer rehabilitation exercise groups, mindfulness sessions and cancer wellness sessions,” ERH nurse unit manager and Cancer and Wellness Centre project clinical liaison Lyn Jeffreson said.
“It is envisaged wellness programs will be delivered by multidisciplinary teams such as exercise physiology, occupational therapy, dietetics and social work.
“This generous grant will ensure the wellness centre is well supported to provide survivorship, supportive care and wellness programs that are evidence-based and in alignment with optimal care pathways for people who access the facility.”
Murray Plains Trust secretary Shane Weller said the committee was proud to provide some assistance for a centre that would provide a significant boost to health facilities in the district.
“The Murray Plains Trust believes that the donation to the Cancer and Wellness Centre will provide equipment and facilities that will provide great benefits and comfort to the people of the Murray Plains area,” Mr Weller said.
