More than 100 people attended the smash hit event, which aimed to provide networking for people who may feel isolated in our community.
Tables were laden with food from around the world, with the Philippines, China, Sri Lanka, Senegal and Congo among the countries represented.
Organiser Christine Sebire, who is the Echuca-Moama branch of Rural Australians for Refugees co-chair, said the event was a powerful opportunity to strengthen community bonds.
‘‘It was such a happy, cheerful atmosphere,’’ she said.
‘‘One lady from the Philippines hadn’t met anyone from the Philippines yet, so it was amazing for her to find her community.
‘‘Another man was from Senegal but had grown up in Italy so he was very excited to have conversations with people in Italian without having to think too much about it.
‘‘So these were just some of the amazing stories we heard of people making connections, which is what we wanted.’’
While the initial plans were to hold the feasts twice a year, Ms Sebire said they might be held more regularly after the success of this first event.
