Council to hold free school holidays event

Greater Shepparton City Council will be holding a free school holidays event, No Time to Waste, for residents to learn about waste and sustainability practices.

The event will take place at the McIntosh Centre in Shepparton on Thursday, July 6 from 10am to 2pm.

The event will include a kids’ play zone, eco-friendly displays and waste trucks for the children to tour. Free food will be available, as well as a bus tour to Western Composting, the Shepparton Resource Recovery Centre, the Waste Education Centre and Cosgrove Landfill.

City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Shane Sali said the event was aimed at kids of all ages to see the waste journey and learn how to live in a more sustainable way.

“Residents can also take the opportunity to visit the Cosgrove Landfill site to follow the journey of what happens to waste once it has been collected,” he said.

“We do ask residents to book a place for the bus prior to the day, as we only have a limited number of seats available.”

Cr Sali said there would also be a screening of WALL-E for families to enjoy.

“We are expecting it to be a great family day out where people can learn more about waste and how we can improve our sustainability habits,” he said.
