Two children’s motorbikes were reported stolen from a Tongala property early on December 22.
To gain access to the property the thieves cut through the fence to the Finley Rd farm and snuck through a drainage channel before stealing the 2014 Suzuki JR80 and a Yamaha PW50.
‘‘We are just so lucky that we found the place they had got through when we did as we had 40 head of beef cattle in the paddock where the fences were cut so it could have been deadly for people on the road if the cows had gotten out as we live on a main road,’’ owner Tania Carter said.
She said although the bikes were valued at $3500, in reality they were ‘‘priceless’’ to her sons.
‘‘This affected my youngest of 10 and two boys aged 17 as the PW50 had been in our family for over 20 years and they were all upset as the JR80 was one of two bikes that were given to the boys for Christmas in 2014,’’ she said.
Tania has offered a $500 reward to anyone who provides her with the information that leads to the return of the bikes.
In another theft, a black WM Holden Caprice, dirt bike, angle grinder, two chainsaws and power tools were stolen from a Northern Hwy property in Strathallan property on Saturday morning.
The car, with blue number plates HON3Y9, was last seen heading to Mitiamo towards Bendigo.
The $5000 red and white CR250 dirt bike, registration 76368 2, has ‘Myles3’ on the side in red and a yellow sticker that reads ‘Yes this is fast. No you can’t ride it’ on the top of the rear mudguard.
A stolen 2015 Toyota Corolla, registration 1AD 1HH, was found burnt out in Lockington on Thursday last week, while a HK Brougham was stolen from a shed in Baynes St, Rochester, between the end of November and Saturday.
The car, registration DK03, is burgundy with a black vinyl roof.
Across the river, two motorbikes, a Hilux ute and other equipment were stolen from a Moama property on Saturday night.
Thieves broke into an Old Barmah Rd property between 12.30pm on Saturday and 3.45pm on Sunday and ransacked the home before stealing a 2004 Yamaha 250 and 2010 Husqvarna 250 as well as a Subaru generator, Makita cordless power tool set, 70lb compound hunting bow and car keys for a Commodore and Falcon.
The Hilux and the Husqvarna motorbike were found after being left in the bush near the river.
In other news, police are also looking for a woman who stole items from a Port of Echuca shop on Saturday morning.
The woman, who allegedly stole a candle and driftwood bird from Candle Scents, was captured on CCTV, which the business has shared on Facebook.
