The hotel is waiting on the tick of approval from the Campaspe Shire Council to open its latest innovation – an ice cream shop.
Hotelier Craig Mann said he had been working on the project for a couple of months, the ice cream shop to be located in the hotel’s former bottle shop space.
Mr Mann said the ice cream shop was something he felt could appeal to locals and visitors alike, particularly with the weather heating up as the year draws to a close.
The hotel, which will be in pole position for Friday night’s Twilight Markets (on the corner of Mackay and Gillies streets), is preparing for a big holiday season.
“At the moment it feels like the lull before the storm. The town has gotten a little quieter in the last couple of weeks, but I think that’s about to change,” she said.
Mr Mann said he was hoping to open the ice cream shop this week.
“We are just waiting for council permission to open the doors. It will be called Milk Shake Lane,” he said.
“As soon as we get the go-ahead it will be all go.”
Mr Mann’s artwork can be seen throughout the hotel and the ice cream parlour will eventually be a continuation of his woodwork.
People will be able to eat inside and outside at the new venue, with an undercover area available.
“We have also turned the old cool room into a dining room,” he said.
“My daughter, Gysje (Thomson), will be running the ice cream shop. We will try it seven days a week and see how it goes.
“If we get permission before Friday we will be open for the market.”
