Last Friday was absolutely a fabulous day for playing croquet.
All members were out to do their best to win on the day.
The winner for the day was Jill Graham who won her three games with a nett hoop score of plus five.
Jill got a hoop in one.
Jumping Johnnie Tarrant kept to his usual two jump shots with Russell Smythe getting three jump shots.
COVID-19 restrictions are starting to ease now and it won’t be long before it’s all finished and we eventually get back to normal.
We say goodbye to the Rich River players who came to play with us while the virus was here and they couldn’t go over the border.
So until we meet again either on a social day or competition, thanks for playing with our club and making up the numbers.
We all had a great time.
Glenda Kelly got a jump shot last Monday.
It just goes to show you that persistence pays off.
Good on you Glenda.
Monday’s results went off well because some of our members came back due to the COVID-19 shut down.
Welcome back to Jan Tracy and Dave Hocking who both live over the border
Everyone was on a even keel as no one won three games.
Quite a few players won two games.
So that means there was no winner for the day.
There were no jump shots and no brilliant hoops in one — that’s unusual for our members and there is always next week.
Everyone will have to try a bit harder.
There were no screams of joy from Jenny but twinkle toes Sandra after a getting a great hoop did a little dance.
At least someone has to give us a bit of entertainment while we are playing.
It was a great day played by all and they just finished before the light rain set in.
Good luck to all our members for next week.
While the school holidays are on and you want to do something different come on down to the lawn tennis and croquet club and play a game or two with our members.
Everyone is welcome.
Rich River
It was very exciting for Echuca members on Thursday of last week when they woke up to the news that the NSW border had been opened for Victorian residents of the “bubble”.
This meant that after two long months they were allowed to play croquet at Rich River again.
A few were quick enough to obtain border crossing permits and join their NSW counterparts at croquet that morning.
Golf croquet captain Helen Brierley is now back at the helm and the club wants to thank members Fiona Larcombe and Anne Dodd for the great job they did organising club play in Helen’s absence.
On Thursday there were 14 players playing doubles and a single.
There were three three-game winners — Russ Smyth with +14, Anne Dodd with +11 and Helen Brierley with +8.
On Tuesday of this week there were 16 participants playing singles.
Four players won all three of their games.
The winner had a nett hoop score of +11, followed by Ian Grant on +7 and Dave Maher and Helen Brierley tied on +6.
Dave was just ahead of Helen on a countback.
Hoops in one were scored by Anne Dodd, Marg Kennedy and Pam Kane.
It’s recommended that adults complete at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise each week.
More than half of all adults do not meet these guidelines, and croquet is an enjoyable way of getting exercise with great mental and social benefits.
Marjorie Grant at Rich River Croquet Club is always happy to coach newcomers and can be contacted on 5480 9985.
