They attended an information session jointly hosted by Country Women’s Association of Victoria representatives in Deniliquin on Sunday.
Eighteen of those in attendance formally joined the CWA on the day.
There has been no active CWA in Deniliquin since 2022, when the previous branch was unable to elect a full committee.
A group of local women saw the gap this left in the social fabric of the community, and have been working behind the scenes to get the movement up and running again.
Among them is Sarah Hooke, who has been elected secretary of the new Deniliquin branch.
President is Millie Blight, and Melissa Jarrott is treasurer.
“The crux of it is friendship and connection, and if we can raise money for the community, that’s an added bonus,” Mrs Hooke said.
While there was some discussion on Sunday about whether the branch should be aligned with CWA NSW, Mrs Hooke said they agreed to continue an association with Victoria.
Deniliquin is one of six NSW-based branches under CWA Victoria, which can lobby the NSW Government for funding on behalf of the branch.
The new Deniliquin CWA branch is planning to hold a meeting within the month to further formalise its establishment.
Meanwhile, the group is still seeking a permanent meeting space.
The former CWA hall in Harrison St is no longer an option. It was transferred to Edward River Council in 2023, who earlier this month offered tenancy to the Deniliquin Youth Initiative community group.
