Dance, disco and dig at Wonderland on the Murray

Families at the Port of Echuca got a slithering surprise this weekend as Gastropodia, the roving snail, made its way through the area.

With its caretaker out front wheeling a container of cabbages, kids and adults alike took turns feeding the creature, which has been a Wonderland on the Murray mainstay.

The giant snail made its way around the sand sculptures at the port, appearing for a short window on both Saturday and Sunday, February 7 and 8.

More imaginative weekend events are coming up, with details on some highlights below.

FireLily Dance ― Saturday, February 14 ― 10am to 12.30pm

Renowned for high-end event entertainment infused with artistry and heart, FireLily Dance will bring its modern circus and breathtaking visuals to the port for free.

Having performed across 14 different countries, visitors can see the group’s world-class live entertainment, including its silk dances and many characters.

Dancing Down the Rabbit Hole ― Saturday, February 21 ― 11am to 2pm

Step into a magical world of play, love and laughter with Guru Dudu’s Silent Disco as it brings extra sparkle to the enchanting Wonderland on the Murray for free.

This free, immersive experience invites you to slip on your supplied headphones and enter a shared audioscape filled with uplifting hits from the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s.

Head to the pop-up park at the Port of Echuca for entertaining commentary, playful interactions and dancing.

Sandstation ― Saturday, February 28 ― 10am to 1pm

Children and families are invited to immerse themselves in a hands-on creative experience at the Port of Echuca pop-up park for free.

Sandsation is a calm, sensory activity that encourages children to express themselves, explore colour combinations and enjoy the satisfaction of creating something completely their own.

It’s suitable for a wide range of ages, and sees kids create their own sand art picture by carefully laying colourful sand on to pre-adhesive cards.

The Great Family Sand Sculpt Off ― Sunday, March 1 ― 10am to 1pm

Gather family or friends and take part in a fun, hands-on sandcastle challenge at Moama Beach.

The experience begins with a tutorial led by a professional sand sculptor, who will share insider techniques including carving, shaping, structure and fine detailing.

Following the tutorial, teams of up to four will put them into action by creating their own original sandcastle ― with all tools provided.
