The Australian Red Cross Lifeblood’s mobile donor centre will visit town amid rising demand for blood in hospitals each year.
More than 70 appointments still need to be filled to ensure Lifeblood can continue to meet patient needs around the country.
Lifeblood spokesperson Ashbyi Randall thanked the Echuca community for its support and generosity so far.
“A blood donation is a selfless gift that can not only save lives but can improve the quality of lives and give people more precious time with their loved ones,” she said.
Cancer patients are the most frequent recipients of blood products, but donations also go to women giving birth, people with blood disorders or autoimmune conditions, trauma victims, and many more.
Ms Randall reminded prospective donors to be well-prepared to ensure a comfortable donation.
“It's very important donors have had enough to eat and drink the day before and day of their donation,” she said.
“When you are well hydrated, your blood volume is higher which leads to a smoother donation, and it helps your body recover quickly.
A donation takes about an hour, although the donation itself only lasts about 10 minutes.
Those unable to attend are encouraged to let Lifeblood know as soon as possible, allowing the service to fill free chairs with walk-ins.
The mobile centre will be stationed in the car park at 438-454 High S, Echuca, from Monday, November 24 to Friday, December 12.
