The NSW Police Force will launch a statewide police operation to target drivers and riders to prevent road trauma.
It started at 12.01am today, and concludes at 11.59pm Monday.
Chief Inspector Michael Fuller said speeding, drink and drug driving, fatigue, and distracted driving will all be targeted.
“It is a sad fact that there is tragic loss of life during holiday periods, including long weekends, when more people are on the roads, travelling and catching up with friends and family,” he said.
“It’s important that you plan your journeys and drive to the conditions.
“This includes when roads may be icy and cold weather, including fog, can be a factor around the district.
“If you are planning to catch up with friends and family, or attend licensed premises, its important to have a plan how to get home safely.
“This could be a designated driver or planning on getting a taxi or ride share, or stay the night over with your friends.
“Police are always out around long weekends and holiday periods, and the chance of random breath testing and random drug testing makes it not worth drink or drug driving.
“Remember to make good choices, look out for your mates, and have a safe and good long weekend.”
