With only seven contenders for nine positions on council, their election will be unopposed, so residents will only need to vote on a referendum — whether to remove wards from Murray River Council and become an undivided council area.
Voting is compulsory for those on Murray River Council’s electoral roll.
Under the current system, the Greater Wakool, Greater Murray and Moama wards have three councillors each, with residents only voting for the representatives of their ward.
If the referendum result sees wards abolished, the councillors can be from anywhere across the local government area and residents will vote for all nine positions.
Early voting is available to all residents this year in various locations, including the former Murray River Council offices at 6 Meninya St, Moama.
The office is open for voting from November 22 to December 3, Monday to Saturday from 9am to 5pm.
Other pre-polling locations include Mathoura Visitor and Business Centre, Barham Community Centre (from November 27) and Murray River Council’s Moulamein Office.
Election day polling will be available at Moama Public School, Mathoura Visitor and Business Centre and Bunnaloo Public School.
