Echuca Bowls Club has raised a substantial amount for Echuca Regional Health’s community palliative care unit, a service close to its member’s hearts.

Over the past few years, Bowls Victoria has introduced a charity round, allowing clubs to select a cause to fundraise for.
Secretary Lisa Humphrys said Echuca Bowls Club opted to support the unit in commemoration of some late members who accessed its services.

“We thought it was a nice way to honour them, but also to give to an area where, potentially, any of us could need it,” she said.
Members held a barbecue on Saturday, December 13, and a separate raffle with locally donated prizes on Tuesday, December 16, raising $2750 for the unit between both events.

The raffle followed the club’s fundraiser match, which saw members dress in Christmas and medical-themed outfits.
ERH palliative care nurse Libby Bell spoke about the unit’s services at the raffle, which Ms Humphrys said highlighted the practitioners’ important work.

“I think the staff do an absolutely spectacular job,” she said.
“They're very special people, and they deserve and need all the help they can get.”
The funds raised will go towards added comforts for patients at the palliative care unit that are not covered within its regular budget.
