ECHUCA cemetery is reminding people to be cautious when leaving items at sites as tributes to family members.
It comes after one woman was left shattered after the fishing rod holders she left at her parents’ grave sites were taken in recent weeks.
Cemetery board chair David Jones said he could understand if people were worried.
“It's unfortunate these incidents are happening,” he said.
“We would recommend people think about leaving items which are special to them and their family at sites.
“Our staff will only remove flowers or anything that is considered to be dangerous to people.”
Mr Jones said he would bring up the issue at the board's next meeting in coming weeks.
“If people are having issues they shouldn't hesitate to contact us,” he said.
“We want to do everything possible to help people out. But it is worth remembering a cemetery is public land and can be accessed by anybody.”
