Work on the fluoride system, which began in April, is ongoing, with no fluoride added to the town’s water supply until the system is upgraded.
A Coliban Water spokesperson said the new fluoridation system will be installed next year.
“Your water remains safe to drink — fluoride is added for oral health benefits and does not impact the quality of your drinking water,” they said.
“We will keep the community updated as this project continues.”
Under the direction of the Victorian Department of Health, fluoride is added to drinking water due to its ability to strengthen teeth and prevent decay.
Echuca’s water supply has been fluoridated since 1978, and residents may want to consider speaking with dentists or healthcare professionals for dental health support.
For communities without fluoridated water, the department provides guidelines for best oral health practices to help prevent tooth decay.
Teeth and gum lines should be cleaned twice per day, and fluoridated toothpaste should be used appropriately.
Residents should drink plenty of water every day, and limit their intake of sugary carbonated drinks, fruit juice and alcohol.
