Grassfires continue to burn near Rutherglen and Corowa this afternoon but are now under control.
Corowa Fire – Being controlled
A fast-moving grassfire is burning near Whitehead Street, northwest of Corowa is now being controlled by firefighters.

The NSW Rural Fires Service has confirmed the alert level for this fire has been downgraded as firefighters are gaining the upper hand.
The fire is approximately 2,000 hectares and is impacting homes and properties on the NSW–Victoria border. It is burning east toward Honour Avenue and the Riverina Highway under strong westerly winds which are now easing.
Firefighters have been successful in holding the fire along Whitehead Road this afternoon.
If you are in the Corowa area north of Redlands Road and west of Honour Avenue, monitor conditions and stay up to date in case the situation changes.

A large Hercules plane from Albury, and water bombing craft are working to slow the spread of the flames with assistance from firefighters on the ground.
The Riverina Highway between Honour Avenue and Federation Way is currently closed with the incident causing power outages across the area.
A total Fire Ban has been in place across the region in the past two days, with strong winds and gusts up to 69kmh have been recorded.
If you are threatened by fire
If the fire impacts, seek shelter in a solid structure such as a house to protect yourself from the heat of the fire.
Bring pets indoors and restrain them, close all doors and windows and turn off air conditioners, keep water running if possible.
Shelter in a room on the other side of the building from the approaching fire, and one that has water and a clear exit out of the house.
Monitor both inside and outside for small fires and burning embers and turn sprinklers on if you have them.
Be careful outdoors after the fire has passed as trees can be unstable and fall.

Another fire has started near Geo Way at Corowa. Firefighters are on scene and controlling the fire.
There is currently no immediate threat to the community.
A separate fire near Rutherglen began along Federation Way near the Murray Valley Highway and moved east. Firefighters responded quickly and are monitoring containment.
Smoke may still be visible from nearby towns and roads. Emergency crews remain on scene for precautionary work.
