The plan includes the goals and priorities for the management of cats and dogs in the community for the next three years.
A new DAMP is required from council every four years.
Mayor Daniel Mackrell said it was an important document for pet owners and all residents.
“With about 9000 registered pets in Campaspe Shire, we recognise the importance of cats and dogs in our communities,” he said.
“Council aims to balance the aspirations of animal owners, the health needs of animals, and the expectations of the broader Campaspe Shire community to produce a management framework that achieves positive outcomes for all stakeholders.
“Domestic animals play a significant part in our lives, so it’s important the community is able to contribute to our management plan, and I encourage everyone to read it and submit any feedback they might have.”
The plan covers topics such as desexing and microchipping, effective control of dogs in public areas, on-leash and off-leash areas for dogs, nuisance dogs and cats, barking dogs, cat confinement, and the collection and disposal of animal excrement.
The draft DAMP has been informed by 190 community survey responses, including themes like the requirements of microchipping, education on compulsory animal registration, and simplified registration processes.
Suggestions also included information about assistance around nuisance animals or if they are involved in a dog attack.
The plan is open for community feedback until Friday, October 3 at 4pm.
