It’s official. The Kyabram Club is the new owner of the Western Gums Caravan Park.
Kyabram Club chairman Terry Nepean confirmed that the club had secured the park on July 1, with the intention to undertake an extensive redevelopment of the ageing facility.
After a lengthy assessment of the park and its potential, club directors signed off on the move with a vision to create a prominent and positive attraction for the town and district.
Mr Nepean said the intention was to develop the park over planned stages into a major appealing asset that would attract new and returning visitors to the town.

Glory for Kyabram trotters
Kyabram trots trainers covered themselves and the town in glory on the weekend with major and minor success in the Empire Stallions Vicbred finals for trotters and pacers at Melton.
Trainer Mick Blackmore had his most satisfying moment in the industry when he produced star trotting mare Claudys Princess to complete a grand slam of wins in the trotting fillies and mares series.
Claudys Princess won the final in her two-year-old year when Graham Lyon trained her and the three-year-old final last season under Blackmore’s guidance.
On Friday night, Claudys Princess became only the second female trotter and fourth trotter in history to win Vicbred finals in the series’ three age groups when she powered away from her rivals in the home straight to take the four-year-old mares crown after working to the front early in the race from a favourable barrier draw.

Mobile phones mobile
A two-year push to have mobile phone reception in Kyabram and district area improved has come to fruition over the past ten days.
The push for Telstra to improve the service was implemented through local government body Skyrod and Federal Member, Mr Bruce Lloyd.
However, late last month, a group of workmen harnessed themselves to the top of the Telecom Tower in Kyabram and added another base station in an effort to improve service to users.

Old photo revives memories
That photograph we published in last week’s Free Press of the Kyabram and Rochester cricketers taken on March 5, 1913, brought back a flood of memories for many old-timers in the area.
One such person it revived memories for was Mr Roy Outram of Saunders St, Kyabram, who is still regarded as the best all round sportsman this town has produced.
Mr Outram was able to tell the Free Press that the front row in the photo was the Kyabram cricket team.

Bombers bounce back to form
Kyabram rediscovered the winning recipe against arch rivals Stanhope on Saturday, and the main ingredient proved to be a bit of plain old fashioned guts.
Kyabram won 20.14 to 6.11 in a lop-sided contest which did little for the spectators but certainly a lot for the morale of the Bomber camp.
Let’s be frank about it all: Stanhope is not a good football side and the Bombers can’t get carried away with the win.
