Trains and buses, including regional trains, coaches and inter-town and regional town bus services will be free across the state from Tuesday, March 31 until Thursday, April 30.
This announcement comes as local fuel prices soar towards a staggering average of 250 cents per litre across Echuca.
Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan said while it "won't solve every problem" to do with the fuel crisis, it will provide immediate relief while the state government works on new solutions.
“As Premier, I’m determined to do everything within my control to help Victorians deal with rising fuel prices,” Ms Allan said.
“This is a temporary measure to help with the cost of living – it will take pressure off the pump and help you save.”
Free travel applies to trips within Victoria, with exceptions for travel between nearby interstate towns such as Albury and Deniliquin in NSW and Mount Gambier in South Australia.
Seat reservations on the V/Line train service will not be available.
Some coach services will still require seat reservations at zero cost to manage capacity.
