They don’t do it for the headlines, the trophies, or the applause — which is precisely why Campaspe Shire made sure they got all three on Thursday night.

The best of the best from across the shire converged at Radcliffe’s on Thursday, January 22 for Campaspe Shire Council’s Citizen Awards.
Nominees with their family and friends packed the room anticipating results for award categories in Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Group of the Year.
The Youth Advisory Group from headspace Echuca snagged the award for Community Group of the Year for its dedication to creating inclusive spaces and youth-led experiences for young people across the shire.
Matilda Sowter from Kyabram took home Young Citizen of the Year for her work in the community as an SES volunteer, a mentor to those at her school and passionate political advocate through her participation in youth parliament last year.
The evening's most prestigious honour, the Citizen of the Year award, was presented to Jim Webb from Toolleen, who was unable to attend the ceremony.
He was recognised for his remarkable contributions to strengthening the Toolleen community over the past two decades, including championing countless local initiatives and dedicating himself to preserving the town's cherished history.
Campaspe Shire Mayor Daniel Mackrell congratulated all nominees and winners and thanked them for their contributions over the past year.
“We are fortunate to have outstanding community members who selflessly give their time, skills and energy to strengthen social connections, create opportunities and improve the wellbeing of residents,” Cr Mackrell said.
“From young leaders to long‑standing volunteers and community groups, your contributions build a more connected and resilient Campaspe.”

Kyabram SES volunteers Bill Murray and Gail Octagon were there to support nominee and fellow volunteer Matilda Sowter.
