The event, which will be held at Echuca Racing Club on Friday, October 3, will raise money to fund the prostate cancer care nurse position held by Serena Morley at Echuca Regional Health.
Since its inception, the committee has kept a promise to continually raise money for the position to be filled at ERH so that people can get the vital care they need without having to travel far and wide.
The committee always brings the star power to the event, with former Collingwood premiership player and Brownlow medallist Dane Swan headlining last year’s event.
This time around, it’ll be the cricketers who will be treated to some legends in former Australian Test fast bowlers Damien Fleming and Peter Siddle and comedian Evan Hocking.
Not only will the guest speakers be regaling the audience with tales of their careers, there will also be raffles and auctions to raise the much-needed funds.
The items in the raffles and auctions range from sports memorabilia to packages from local businesses, which support the event every year, with Caffery’s CLAAS Harvest Centre Echuca being the major sponsor.
While the event has sold out and has been well supported since its beginning in 2013, Horizon Committee vice-president Hayley Lawton said he was glad to see the community rally around the cause.
“The event is sold out again this year, which is wonderful news,” Mr Lawton said.
“The money raised fulfils our commitment to providing a part-time or dedicated prostate cancer nurse here in the Echuca ... which is through the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, too.
“This will be our 13th year so it’s wonderful that we’re getting really strong community support.
“There’s been members who have attended the event that perhaps have been through their own prostate cancer journey that have benefited from having Serena here in Echuca as well.”
