Part of the Wonderland on the Murray trail, the Dancing Down the Rabbit Hole program set off from the White Rabbit sculpture, taking participants on a roving disco through the markets.
Guru Dudu and his partner Disco Dukduk, led six 30-minute sessions from 9.30am to 12.30pm, inviting market-goers to join in along the way.
During the disco, participants enter a shared audioscape, dancing to hits from the 1970s, ’80s and ’90s while Guru Dudu guided them along the route with playful commentary.

With the activation coinciding with market day, Disco Dukduk said they wanted to make the most of the opportunity.
“We’re all about place activation, bringing and encouraging people to take a chance and have a little bit of fun,” he said.
“In a place like this, we’re trying to bring the stallholders and the community together just to do something that they wouldn’t normally do on a Saturday morning.”

While silent discos originated in the Netherlands around two decades ago, running them through streets and markets was pioneered in Melbourne a decade ago by Guru Dudu himself.
He has since taken the concept around the world, often touring Europe during Australia’s colder months and returning to host discos across the country during summer.

Disco Dukduk said the highlight for them was seeing participants immerse themselves in the tours.
“The best is when people don’t think they really want to do it, and then they try it. Next thing you know, they’re smiling and laughing,” he said.
“It’s when they overcome their fear. For us, it’s all about taking that leap of faith.”
