Corowa’s top cop received the Crime, Community and Our People Award from Joe Cassar, APM Assistant Commissioner Southern Region at Albury Police Station.
“You have joined a very elite group in our region and are easily deserving of this,” Assistant Commissioner Cassar told Sgt Marshall.
“You have gone above and beyond your role to deliver outcomes for police and the community.”
For the past two years, Sgt Marshall has led and organised charity bowls days at Howlong Country Golf Club, raising thousands of dollars to help with cancer care and research by Albury Wodonga Cancer Trust.
Last year’s event in September raised $6,000.
Trust fund media officer Justine Rofe said at the time, “It is the strength in our community that motivates us forward and we are grateful to all who were involved in the day”.
Also, for the second year, Sgt Marshall assisted on the water and land crew on all five days of the 415km Murray Marathon.
“He is a favourite with the kids in the marathon, forming a very positive police and community connection,” Asst Comm Cassar said.
Sgt Marshall, whose police career spans 32 years, expressed his thanks and appreciation for the award.
“We go through years in this job doing what feels right, trying to help people and engage,” he said.
“For years, I have struggled to find a place that I can call home … finally I can.
“It’s amazing how much you are prepared to do when you are invested in a community and the various projects I have been fortunate enough to participate in.”
