The Walk of Witness begins at 11am on Good Friday, April 3, at the Echuca Moama Uniting Church on Hare St.
“Easter is one of those defining points in the Christian calendar where we recognise the sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross and then his death and the resurrection for the salvation of the world,” Rev Zamagias said.
“We have a series of Bible readings, prayers, songs and then we walk down Hare St to Christ Church Anglican, do some more Bible readings, songs and prayers there.”
The procession continues across the road to St Mary's Catholic Church for similar activities, then returns to the Uniting Church.
“Then we go back to the Echuca Moama Uniting Church, and there will be an Easter message delivered by me,” Rev Zamagias said.
The morning concludes with hospitality from the Uniting Church in the hall, with hot cross buns, coffee and tea.
Rev Zamagias emphasised the significance of the walk, explaining it traces the events of Holy Week leading to the crucifixion.
“The Bible readings tell the story,” he said.
“Some people would be familiar with the Stations of the Cross, and might find some familiar territory there, but basically it is telling the story in stages of Jesus' entry into Jerusalem and then eventually his trial and his crucifixion.
“The Christian message is that Jesus came to die on the cross to pay the price for sin and to provide salvation for all who believe.”
The route focuses on three geographically close churches on Hare St to minimise walking distance.
“Somebody's going to be carrying a wooden cross, like Jesus did to the crucifixion,” Rev Zamagias said.
“All people are welcome from any denomination or no denomination.
“Everyone is welcome to join us, even if they don't want to walk.
“Come for the hot cross buns, as part of morning tea, back at the Uniting Church.
“It is a community event, everyone is welcome.”
