The 22-year-old has been working at the bakery for about two years while completing a Certificate III in Retail Baking (Combined).
Kyla finished her studies in October this year and will continue working at the Echuca Beechworth Bakery, she said the news came as a real surprise.
‘‘It was really exciting, I found out a couple of nights before (the presentation) but I couldn’t tell anyone. But it was really good and everyone was really happy when they found out,’’ she said.
‘‘I bake anything from bread, pasties, pies, cakes, cream products and so on. But I really like decorating all of the cakes for the shop.’’
The certificate, which included three weeks of trade school a year, taught her essential skills without the trial and error on the job.
‘‘I learnt a lot at trade school and I was able to bring it back here, and sometimes it was the other way around,’’ she said.
‘‘My favourite activity was baking bread. We made about 50 loaves all wrong — on purpose — so we could recognise different faults with them.
‘‘It was actually interesting to see how different faults affected the look of the breads.’’
As for plans for the future, Kyla said she plans to continue working at the bakery and possibly start her Certificate IV if it becomes available.
