La Trobe University welcomes students before they hit the books

Aspiring workers of tomorrow bustled through La Trobe University’s Shepparton campus on Wednesday, February 22, excited to begin the school year.

La Trobe’s Orientation Week was filled with live music, food, games and activities, and the opportunity for commencing students to collect merchandise, sign up for clubs and get to know their new classmates.

One student in particular, Tilly Male, was enjoying the week but looking forward to what her future in primary education entailed.

“I work as a teacher’s aid at the moment and I see the dedication and the way teachers change the kids’ lives ... it’s amazing,” she said.

“I want to help students be the best person they can be as they grow up.”

Shepparton campus head Elizabeth Capp said she was looking forward to seeing students follow their passions and start their La Trobe University courses.

“We’re very excited about the growth in students, especially those in education courses due to teacher shortages being an issue for all our towns,” she said.

“Starting a new year and helping new students successfully transition is such a fabulous, fun thing to do and a real privilege.

“We know if they make a good start, they’ll just fly.“
