Three generations of players have passed through the club, out on the field and on the netball courts.
Before the LBU merger in 1989, the Brentnall family was heavily associated with the Bamawm Football Club.
Today, four Brentnalls pull on the Cats’ colours on a weekly basis — Stanley (senior and under 17s footballer), Edward (under 17s footballer), James (under 12s footballer) and Ruby (D primary netballer).
They follow in the footsteps of their father Greg who played for Bamawm and grandfather David who was captain-coach of the Lions’ 1969 reserves premiership side.
While Greg’s sisters Emma, Narelle, Sandra and Vaenna all played netball for Bamawm.
‘‘It’s very special to have the family continually involved,’’ Greg said.
‘‘Not everyone can say they’ve had their kids follow in their footsteps and played for the same club.
‘‘We appreciate the support the club has shown our family over the years.’’
When you’ve been at a club for so long, familiar faces are a certainty and that is what keeps drawing Greg and his family back.
‘‘The longer we keep our family involved the better,’’ he said.
‘‘There is a real community spirit which exists at LBU and we’re pleased to be a part of it.’’
Earlier this month, David, Greg and Stanley all had the opportunity to celebrate the 1969 premiership success together — as LBU hosted a 50-year reunion.
‘‘It was a special moment for everyone who was involved in the success,’’ Greg said.
‘‘Guys came from all across the country, it shows how much it meant to them.
‘‘I’m glad we were there to experience it as a family.’’
