The van included a team of volunteer qualified dermoscopic nurses supported by driver and administration personnel.
Each member of the team is a member of various Lions Clubs in Victoria.
The mobile Lions V Skin Check Van was purchased in 2020 at a cost of $400,000 and currently has a pool of 30 volunteer dermoscopists supported by six drivers.
In 2024 the team visited 77 towns in rural Victoria and southern NSW to carry out this vital service to rural and remote communities.
The van’s personnel would welcome any prospective volunteers to join their team to provide a service along the Murray.
Overall data from these visits indicate that 46 per cent of those attending the van had never had a skin check and 35 per cent received referrals to their local doctor for further investigation. It should be noted that all lesions are suspect only, until proven by further investigation.
Finley Lions Club has acknowledged the overwhelming generosity and support of local individuals and businesses who supported this project.
This includes the generosity of Finley Bakery which donated morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea to the team for both days and the Finley Palms Motel for donating some of the accommodation.
Thanks also to the Country Club Hotel for providing coffee on Tuesday and the significant donation from Nutrien Ag supplies.
“Finley Lions Club values the backing of the local community which continues to support local initiatives,” the group said.
“It is hoped that with ongoing support, the club can host the skin check van again in the future.”
