A grade — Echuca 40 d Seymour 39
Bests: Holly Long, Tamara Nicholls, Casey Frame.
Echuca was looking to win its second round clash against Seymour when the two met at Vic Park.
Seymour were looking for redemption after losing to the Bombers late last season.
Seymour settled well in the opening quarter, taking a three-goal lead against the Bombers, despite the attacking efforts of Claudia Mawson and Meg Rohde.
The Lions continued their high pressure game in the second quarter, taking a five goal lead half way through, however accurate shooting from Casey Frame and attacking play from Holly Long allowed the Bombers to reduce the margin to three goals at the main break.
The Lions had the better of the Bombers again in the third, skill errors were costly and a drop in intensity frustrated coach Gina Pearson.
Annabel Johnson and Zara Pearson brought a physical presence to the game, whilst Tamara Nicholls and Bridget Byrne were sturdy in defence.
The final quarter was an intense contest, as the Bombers were slowly reducing the margin.
Lucy Higgins showed maturity and poise, delivering the ball out of defence.
The game went down to the wire, with Echuca snatching a one goal victory.
The Bombers may be a new look team, but their determination and desire in pressure situations should not be underestimated.

Echuca Green 6.4 (40) lt. Tatura 17.1 (103)
Echuca green put the first score on the board in a hard fought match against Tatura on Sunday.
The first quarter saw an even contest with the ball moving quickly from end to end, some great play into the forward line saw plenty of scoring opportunities, Cody Mann leading and marking well however, it took a great shepherd from Connor McCoy allowing Josh Dempster to run into goal.
A promising start in the second with a strong backline led by Sol Fleming and Jed Dargan pushing the ball forward.
During the half time break the coaches asked for more intent and that’s what the boys gave.
The game seemed to be turning the Greens way with our senior players Allan O’Neill, Kyle Green, Noah Turner and Mitch Shearer leading the way and the younger brigade of Zac Hegarty, River Stevens and Ed Cunningham stepping up to show their class in a very even quarter.
The last quarter saw the boys in green fight hard to finish out the game.
Josh Carr got things going from the centre, Tyson Bourke and Levi Hone strong across half back and Chay Williams showing his tackling pressure and turn of speed, unfortunately the damage had been done with Tatura proving too hard to peg back.
The games highlight was the fighting spirit and determination of the boys of Echuca Green to finish off the game strongly with plenty of heart.
Goals: Josh Dempster (2), Mitchell Shearer (1), Kyle Green (1), Allan O’Neill (1) and River Stevens (1).
Awards: Allan O’Neill, Ed Cunningham, Zac Hegarty and Kyle Green.

The second quarter saw every boy attack the ball and move the ball to their advantage.
Finn Miller and Will Poulton were pivotal in Echuca Bombers getting back into the game.
Hugh Byrne was the general across the half back line and led from the front with strong marking.
Goals to Makai Cronin, Seamus Miller and Isaac Watson saw Echuca Bombers draw level at half-time.

Echuca Murray Bombers
The first half was played in slippery conditions but Harry Milburn and Max Hagan handled the conditions well giving the forwards plenty of opportunities.
Tom Evans and Lachie Donchi made the most of it getting amongst the goals.
The games highlighted the depth of talent Echuca junior football club has with Tighe Coke and Harvey Allan contributing.
The scores were even at half time.
