Local farmer makes out-of-this-world discovery

A local resident is convinced he has found a piece of rock from outer space on his farm in Moama.

Alan Williams said he made the discovery when he went down a path in one of his paddocks and saw the large rock sitting there, clear as day.

Mr Williams believes that the meteorite may have been a product of the mysterious loud noise heard by Echuca-Moama and surrounding area residents in late May.

He also theorises that the meteorite could have something to do with Campaspe’s recent Southern Auroras.

“I went up into one of my paddocks, only about 400 metres away I turned onto a track which I rarely go down and there it was, a big rock sitting there,” he said.

“Only about a week before there was that loud noise that a few of the surrounding towns heard as far away as Tongala, the noise was unbelievable.

“As soon as I saw the rock sitting there, I realised that was what it was from.”

Mr Williams said that he would be hanging on to the “rare” find and would have it tested to confirm it was in fact a meteorite and not just a regular old rock.

“It’s a very rare thing to have a meteorite land on your farm,” he said.
