Over the years, she has raised money for a range of causes, including the Movember campaign and initiatives supporting prostate and pancreatic cancer research.
Personal health issues has hindered her ability to fundraise in the past few years, but now she says she is “back on deck”.
This month, she is turning her focus to hosting a World’s Greatest Shave fundraiser.
Working as a hairdresser, Ms Wilcock has spent years listening to the stories of people who sit in her chair, many of whom are navigating difficult health journeys.
Ms Wilcock said it was those interactions that motivated her to give back.
“Everyone gets sick at a time,” she said.
“There’s no particular person that inspired me, but over the years you see people coming in ... with different ailments — this is just one way of helping them.”
In Australia, more than 170,000 people are living with the impacts of blood cancer, 17 of whom lose their lives to the disease every day.
Funds raised through the World’s Greatest Shave help support research projects and vital services for patients and their families through the Leukaemia Foundation.
To support the cause, the Echuca-Moama community is invited to bring friends and family to Gem and Gordon’s Hair Room on Tuesday, March 17, to donate or have their heads shaved.
The event will run from 11am to 2pm, with live music from the Piano Wizard, Andrew Farrell, and a barbecue cooked by Boys to the Bush.
