Lions Clubs are active across the Southern Riverina, as part of a network of 1200 clubs and 25,000 members across Australia now giving back through an array of community-based programs and initiatives.
More information about our local clubs is provided here.
Berrigan Lions Club
Berrigan Lions Club is just a small tooth in a very large cog known as Lions Australia, but they play a very important role in contributing to the overall picture of activities.
Some of these activities are collecting and recycling old batteries. Income from this is used as funds for distribution to help Lions projects and the local community.
Other fundraising activities including catering with the barbecue trailer, the sale of Lions Christmas Cakes and mints, and producing the annual calendar.
Recently $1000 each was donated to the local swimming pool committee, Australian Lions Foundation Disaster Appeal for flood victims, and the 201 V6 Foundation to help with disasters in our district.
If there is a need in this area, we can call upon this foundation for assistance.
Lions Club members run the gates at the Berrigan Gold Cup and the Berrigan Agricultural Show, and members also maintain the lawn cemetery.
Primary and secondary schools are supported, as is Moira Food Share.
For the past 29 years the Lions have cooked breakfast at the DAWMAC free community Christmas breakfast, feeding more than 100 people each year. The Children’s Centre Christmas Party is also catered for.
Berrigan Lions Club was chartered in 1973 with 56 members, but numbers have sadly reduced to only seven active members today.

Finley Lions Club
Finley Lions Club continues to be active in the community.
Each year the club and its members actively support a diverse range of groups in raising funds and providing services.
These include supporting the local show and shine, Finley Regional Care fete, Breast Cancer Awareness Week, Driver Reviver Program, Hay Runners and the Finley Xmas Xtravaganza in conjunction with the Berrigan Shire.
The club is also proud to be involved with the Junior Public Speaking program, which runs within local and regional schools. This annual event is about to commence for 2025.
In 2024, the Lions Club completed a three-year project to construct a columbarium at the Finley cemetery, providing a modern resting place for the ashes of local loved ones. The club continues to care for and maintain the grounds of the local cemetery.
Major fundraising each year is through the weekly wood raffles over the winter months. The club has just completed a working bee to ensure firewood stocks are high, and ready to be raffled.
The club also collects batteries for recycling and caters for a variety of local functions and fundraising activities.
Finley Lions Club welcomes new members who would like to join a community focused team of volunteers. The club meets the first and third Tuesday of each month.
If you would like to know more, go to www.facebook.com/finleylionsclub or speak to a local Lion about how you can be involved.
Tocumwal Lions Club
The Tocumwal Lions Club has a 50 year history of serving the community.
The club’s purpose is to take an active interest in the civic, cultural, social, and moral welfare of the community.
Funds are raised to assist those in need through street stalls, catering and the sale of Lions Christmas cakes and puddings.
All funds raised by the club’s Whole Town Garage Sale, held each November, supports the Australian Lions Childhood Cancer Research Foundation.
Tocumwal Lions Club supports youth with the Junior Public Speaking program, which involves the primary schools in the area. Local children excel in the program, which aims to build their confidence and skills for the future.
The club is also involved in recycling with the collection of cans and bottles, old spectacles, hearing aids and postage stamps. The spectacles are re-purposed by the Lions Recycle for Sight Program, while the sale of postage stamps raises funds for the Australian Lions Children Mobility Foundation.
A major project of the Club is the Tocumwal Railway Heritage Museum. It showcases Tocumwal’s rail history, as well as general history, and is open each Saturday with the help of volunteers.
The upkeep of the local lawn cemetery and skate park also keeps members busy.
Membership is open to all community minded people aged 18 and over.
The club meets the second and fourth Thursday of each month at the Lions Club Function Rooms, at 5.30pm. All enquiries can be directed to the secretary on 0417 868 498, tocumwal.nsw@lions.org.au or via mail to PO Box 110 Tocumwal.
