Applications for next year’s Loddon Murray Community Leadership Program, a hands-on initiative that focuses on assisting budding leaders, are now open.
The program helps to grow confident and capable leaders, helping participants become clearer about their priorities and goals to empower communities.
Girgarre resident Erin Richardson, who is part of this year’s LMCLP cohort, said she was initially hesitant to sign up, but had loved the program so far.
“I was a bit nervous about it at the start of the year because I really had no idea what it was going to involve, but it’s just been incredible,” she said.
“It’s helped me come out of my shell ... just day-to-day, communicating with people, even work-wise.”

Ms Richardson organises the monthly Girgarre Markets and volunteers at Gargarro Botanic Garden in different roles.
Inspired by LMCLP, she plans to integrate other community groups into the market, with the aim of raising the town’s profile.
As the market attracts tourists, having stalls dedicated to the local football club and primary school, for example, may help grow their base.
“Hopefully, in time, it brings in new, young families to the town that actually want to be here and live here,” Ms Richardson said.
She recommended the program for anyone who was public-spirited and volunteered in any community setting.
For 27 years, LMCLP has helped to build leadership skills, connect regional networks and encourage those ready to make a change to take action.
Many alumni go on to local government, volunteer organisations, social enterprises and grassroots initiatives, working towards a better tomorrow for their homes.
