Main Street contract awarded

“We’re told the works are scheduled to start later in January,” Cr Price said.

“We’re committed to delivering safety improvements on the Murray Valley Highway (Main Street) Rutherglen for the benefit of pedestrians and other road users.

“After receiving feedback from the community regarding the project, we’ve made some minor changes to the planned improvements.”

Safety improvements include a pedestrian operated signalised crossing between High Street and Murphy Street, a zebra crossing near Warrens Lane, speed cushions to help slow vehicles, raised safety platforms, extensions to 40km/h speed zones, and kerb outstands as a traffic calming measure.

Only three on-street car parking spaces will be removed to allow for safety infrastructure.
