Midwives at Echuca Regional Health celebrated International Midwives Day.

Maternity Unit Manager at ERH, Amanda Murphy said International Midwives Day was a day for midwives to be recognised and celebrated for the important work that they do.
“The best part about being a midwife is being able to bring new life into the world,” Ms Murphy said.
“Helping families on their journey into parenthood is such a privilege for our midwives.”
Ms Murphy said being a midwife during the pandemic had involved adapting to new restrictions and regulations.
“Although we did not have the same kind of restrictions as hospitals in Melbourne, we did have to limit who we were allowing into the hospital,” she said.
“We always allowed dads to come in and in some cases we allowed a special support person during labour, but that was pretty much the extent of it.
“After these experiences, our team feels more confident than ever in our ability to adjust to frequently changing situations.
“Echuca is incredibly fortunate to have a wonderful and passionate group of midwives providing care to the community.”

Newborn baby, Indy Kingma, was born on May 4 at ERH.
She weighs three kilos and is the third-born daughter of Kym and Mark Kingma.
Indy’s mother, Mrs Kingma, said she was amazed with how well her family had been treated by the midwives in the maternity ward.
“We are so thankful for the midwives at ERH who have been a remarkable source of support from the moment we walked in here,” Mrs Kingma said.
“We just couldn’t ask for anything more.”
Ms Murphy said there were 30 midwives (27 midwives and three students) at ERH.
“We stand out in comparison to other hospitals because we do currently have a full cohort of staff on our team,” she said.
The ERH midwives celebrated the day with an afternoon tea full of treats.
