It will join four Echuca pharmacies in offering vaccinations, as well as local GPs, Echuca Regional Health’s clinic and Njernda Medical Centre.
Moama Village Pharmacy is joining the local COVID-19 vaccination rollout, receiving doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine as part of the staged release by the government.
From September 20, the pharmacy will be offering the vaccine from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. Appointments are preferred but walk-ins are available.
“Pharmacies are an easily accessible, community health hub,” pharmacist Clint Flanigan said.
“They provide a space where someone could be walking down the street or doing their shopping and access this type of service.”
AstraZeneca is available to anyone aged over 18, with informed consent required from those aged 18 to 59.
The pharmacy is also involved in Murray River Council’s pop-up COVID-19 vaccination initiative to take the vaccine to smaller communities – starting with Mathoura and Wakool next week.
Mr Flanigan anticipates to receive the Moderna vaccine in the coming weeks as part of the rollout of the third vaccine to Australian pharmacies.
With the NSW and Victorian governments flagging vaccinations as the way out of lockdowns, government mandates are being discussed for certain industries.
One already in place is for residential aged care staff, decided by national cabinet in June.
By September 17, workers must have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine as a condition of working in an aged care facility.
According to Australian Health Department data, for all five of Echuca-Moama’s aged care facilities - Southern Cross Care Moama, Menarock LIFE Moama (Murrayvale), Glanville Village, Bupa Echuca and Wharparilla Lodge - between 90 to 100 per cent of staff have received at least one dose.
National cabinet is expected to discuss a vaccination mandate for healthcare workers on September 17.
