Although it was primarily a move-in day, the station was also operational from noon for any community members who needed to drop in.
Sergeant Chris Matthews, who worked out of the old Moama station for a decade, said the facility would be beneficial for both the officers and local community.
“I’m not technically stationed here ... but I’ve worked in the old (station) for 10 years,” he said.
“It’s fantastic for both the officers who are stationed here and obviously the community.
“The facilities are first class, and we’re excited to be in here.”
The long-awaited $7.9 million facility is a step up from the 1950s building that previously housed the local police officers on Maiden St, Moama.
The new station has been outfitted with state-of-the-art technology to align Moama with its metropolitan counterparts and to meet current standards for custody facilities, office facilities and public facing areas.
The building has also been designed with the future in mind, with space for up to 30 police officers, allowing room for new staff, detectives and other visiting police.
All existing staff have moved to the Cobb Hwy station.
Any community members who need to visit the local police can head to the new station located on 216 Cobb Hwy, Moama.
An official opening of the station is expected to be held early in the new year.
Further updates will be provided on the official NSW Police site, and posted to the Murray River Police District Facebook page.
