Only 13 years old, the Moulamein local has already become well known for her sporting ability on the tennis and netball courts.
In particular, the award recognised Mila’s outstanding achievements as a netball umpire, which saw her oversee her first senior games last season.
She has progressed swiftly through the grades and consistently sought out new challenges, earning the respect of players, coaches and fellow umpires for the way she has conducted herself.
Mila’s commitment to learning, including by going to training sessions and rule workshops and receiving official feedback, has set her apart.
The council noted she had handled challenging matches with maturity beyond her years, ensuring smooth gameplay in heated situations.
“Off the court, she willingly supported younger umpires through local clinics, sharing her experiences and encouraging others to give officiating a go,” it said.
This year, Mila is aspiring to become a badged umpire, a challenging achievement the council believes she can attain through her determination, skill and work ethic.
“Mila’s remarkable achievements, her dedication to improvement and her positive influence on the local netball community make her a truly deserving recipient of the Young Sportsperson of the Year Award,” the council said.
