Rural members of parliament are demanding a better share of state government spending from the Victorian budget, due to be handed down on Tuesday.
State Member for Shepparton District, Kim O’Keeffe, has asked for more spending on road maintenance and housing and to fund the completion of the GV Health redevelopment, including a fully Integrated Cancer Centre, which includes radiotherapy.
“We are the only major hospital in Victoria without an entire integrated cancer centre,” Ms O’Keeffe said.
“Our region is in the midst of a housing crisis, but rather than help get people into homes, the Allan Labor Government has concentrated on city-centric projects that do nothing for regional Victorians.”
State Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell is urging the government to fund a new sports stadium in Shepparton.
Ms Lovell has called on the treasurer to commit a minimum of $8 million in funding towards a new Shepparton Sports and Events Centre in the 2025-26 budget.
Greater Shepparton’s Sports Stadium is home to more than 150 local sporting clubs with an estimated 15,000 members.
