Its Mates of the Murray campaign for the Southern Riverina region of NSW and northern Victoria was awarded silver in the Tourism Marketing and Campaigns category.
The award was one of seven combined gold, silver and bronze awards for MRT members across the Victorian and NSW awards — including the Deni Ute Muster’s silver in the NSW Major Events and Festivals section — and three more “outstanding finalists”.
MRT chief executive Cameron Sutton said it was one of its strongest award seasons on record for the Murray region.
He said the results showcased the depth, diversity and excellence of visitor experiences that continued to position the Murray as one of Australia’s most compelling regional destinations.
“Our operators, event organisers and tourism teams work hard to create experiences that capture the heart of the Murray,” Mr Sutton said.
“To see so many of them recognised across Victoria and NSW shows the strength of our region and the passion that drives it.
“We are especially proud to be awarded silver for our Mates of the Murray campaign.
“This campaign was built on real people who bring our communities to life.
“Every ‘mate’ who shared their story gave visitors a genuine connection to our region, and this recognition belongs to them. Our team is thrilled and very grateful.”
Mr Sutton said the results also demonstrated the important role collaboration played in lifting the profile of the region.
“When the region comes together, we achieve big things,” he said.
“Whether it is a small business, a volunteer organisation or a major attraction, every contribution strengthens the Murray story.
“We are incredibly proud of everyone who represented our region in these highly competitive state awards.”
Gold winners from both states go on to represent the Murray and their respective state at the Australian Tourism Awards in March 2026.
