The biggest change will be for in the groups for Year 1 and above.
Replicating styles modelled on junior league competitions like the Murray and Picola football leagues, the program has been reinvigorated to meet the enthusiasm for a team-based, competitive format.
Children in age groups for Year 1 and above will have dedicated teams with coaches.
These coaches are selected for their experience in team sports and their enthusiasm for the growth and development of our kids in the community.
Previously dominated by drill activities, each week (or round) will now begin with a warm-up and some play tactics from the coaches before teams face off against each other in games that follow the traditional rules of junior football.
The aim is to encourage healthy competition in a safe and supportive space that will foster a love of the game, while developing team camaraderie that will set them up for sports in their older years.
Each team will consist of 10 to 12 players, which is the ideal number to ensure players get maximum exposure to the ball with space to move and develop their own abilities.
For the preschool and Kindergarten-aged participants, fun activities will be hosted to continually develop general motor and game skills in the easiest way possible.
After a series of activities that set the kids up with the foundations to play, they will participate in a game that will strengthen their knowledge of the rules.
In addition to the 10-week program, there will be three bonus opportunities, including showcase games with the Deniliquin Rams and Deniliquin Rovers.
The annual trip to Rand to compete in a round-robin style footy carnival will again be part of the program, and the committee also has its sights set on a Auskick trip to Melbourne.
Auskick is targeted at children aged five to 12.
