Amelia Ashwin was among the latest group of new Australians who took part in a citizenship ceremony at Rich River Golf Club last month.
The Barham resident, originally from New Zealand, joined others born overseas to receive an official welcome from Murray River Council.
Mrs Ashwin was accompanied by her husband Nick, the pair celebrating what was a momentous occasion.
“I’ve been in Australia for almost six years,” she said.
“Barham has a slower pace, with plenty to do and many great people. It’s less stressful compared to a city.”
Nick is a carpenter with his own small business and works for other larger companies in the area.

They are also regulars in Echuca-Moama.
“We love the Greek restaurants in Echuca. Barham does have a few good places to eat, too,” she said.
Mayor Frank Crawley was in attendance to officially welcome our newest Australians as part of the ceremony.
Proud: Bangie Lennie, Jocelen Malasaga, John Bamford, Annie Taylor and Mayor Frank Crawley at the ceremony.
