Two people have died in a crash at Rochester on Friday, July 5.
Emergency services responded to reports two vehicles had collided head-on on the Northern Highway about 5km south of Rochester about 1.30pm.
The male driver of one vehicle, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.
Police said his female passenger, yet to be formally identified, was extracted from the car and given medical assistance.
She died at the scene a short time later.
The female driver of the second vehicle was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Two passengers of that vehicle, both teenage girls, were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said the exact circumstances surrounding the collision are yet to be determined and investigations remain ongoing.

Emergency services were called to the serious crash about 1.30pm.
The Northern Hwy is closed in both directions between Elmore and Rochester.
The road is shut between Mary St in Rochester and Margaret St in Elmore, with traffic being diverted by police along Heathcote-Rochester Rd and the Midland Hwy.

The crash occurred just south of Settlement Rd, at Rochester.
Emergency services, including police, SES, ambulance, CFA and two ambulance helicopters are on scene.
The highway is closed in both directions, with traffic being diverted.
