The auction finale includes a full-sized cricket bat autographed by Allan Border’s Australian team and Mike Gatting’s English side during their 1986-87 Adelaide Test match.
Salvation Army Major Greg Turnbull said the annual quiz night had become an integral part of the Red Shield Appeal and it would again be held at Echuca Workers on May 30.
“We were delighted to be given this amazing cricket bat — Allan Border is, of course, a cricketing legend around the world, and Mike Gatting, if nothing else, will always be remembered as the man who, a few years later, would be bamboozled and bowled by Shane Warne’s famous ‘ball of the century’ delivery at Old Trafford,” Mr Turnbull said.

“To get not just those names, but every player from both teams, makes this bat something very special.
“I imagine there will be plenty of people in town, or with friends elsewhere, who would like to get their hands on something this rare.
“You certainly don’t see things like this coming up every day around here.”
The Red Shield Appeal runs through the months of April, May and June each year.
This year, the traditional national door knock will take place on May 24 and 25.
Mr Turnbull said one of the most important things about all the money raised in the twin towns was that it stayed here and was used to support local people.
“I think that makes a real difference, people are being asked to dig deep for a lot of very good causes, but knowing your donation is doing good in your community is important,” he said.
“Some of the other items we already have listed for the auction include a high tea for four people in the members’ dining room at the Parliament of Victoria and a similar package for the Federal Parliament in Canberra.
“And there will be plenty of other worthwhile lots in the auction, and other prizes to be won, so we encourage people to book a table, or a ticket, for our quiz night on Friday, May 30 — win lose or draw, we promise it will be a fun occasion, and our wider community will be the real winner.”
Tickets are available from the Epicentre Op Shop at 75 Ogilvie Ave, Echuca, or contact the Salvation Army on 5482 6722.
