Malcolm Hunting is calling on others to take the brave step of asking for help, following a 45-year career in paramedicine and the loss of his wife.
After retiring in 2022, Mr Hunting felt a loss of identity, as everyone knew him as the Edenhope paramedic, and his wife, Lesley, as the ‘ambo’s wife’.
Sadly, Lesley passed away this year, which also saw the loss of Mr Hunting’s supportive pillar.
After another tragic event involving a former colleague, Mr Hunting’s daughter, who works for AV, encouraged him to speak with a counsellor.
“It was there that I admitted for the first time that I was feeling symptoms of depression and post-traumatic stress disorder,” he said.
“If you’re not feeling right, then the chances are, you’re not right. Don’t be afraid to ask for help and see a psychologist.”
