The Draft Road Management Plan outlines the justifications for road upgrades, and sets standards for various road management measures and repair timeframes.
It identifies responsibilities, maintenance levels and inspection regimes for all road assets within the council’s control.
At council’s July meeting, Cr Paul Jarman said the plan was significant to the community, as it provided an obligation to them.
“The road management plan, as a document, is probably one of the most important documents in relation to Campaspe Shire,” he said.
“It has huge ramifications that those settings around repairs, maintenance and interventions are set on evidence-based and engineering principles, rather than opinion.”
The plan includes a mechanism to set standards aside during and after exceptional circumstances, such as a natural disaster.
Mayor Daniel Mackrell said council was responsible for maintaining a road network of over 4000km, which included other roadside property and infrastructure.
“We are also responsible for various road-related assets, including footpaths, shared paths, bridges and culverts, signs and roadside vegetation,” he said.
“The Road Management Plan provides specific details regarding how council will manage, inspect and repair these assets to identified standards, to ensure they remain fit for purpose for all road users.”
The plan is open for feedback until Friday, September 12, and can be viewed by visiting campaspe.vic.gov.au/NowOpen
