Founder, and first president, Lock Lidgerwood said the club was created in 2011 after other local Probus clubs reached capacity.
“There were three Probus clubs in Benalla, the men's club, the ladies club, and the lakeside Probus - which was a mixed gender club,” Mr Lidgerwood said.
“The lakeside club, their membership was full, they had more than 120 and couldn't fit any more.

“So Lions suggested we put an ad in the Benalla Ensign, and after that we met here at Benalla Bowls Club on a Thursday to see if there was any interest.
“About 60 people turned up, so we decided to form a club - and I was the first president chosen - after I was given permission by my wife.”
Mr Lidgerwood, who was also a member of the Benalla lions Club, said the main difference with a Probus club was the fees were less, and it was more of a social club than a service club.
“It's fun and fellowship,” Mr Lidgerwood said.
“We get together and have some wonderful guest speakers.
“We have an activities person who organises the activities.
“We do bus trips to local attractions, go to matinee performances in Melbourne.

“We are off to the Echuca paddle steamers shortly, and then we have the steam rally at Malden, which is coming up soon.
“We visit local wineries for lunch and that's a good day out.
“And we go on a bus, so you can have two or three drinks and have a bus to drive you home.”
The Rose City Probus club meets on the third Thursday of each month at Benalla Bowls Club.
